Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any coding experience?

Absolutely not.  We assume zero experience coming in to the code school.  We start our curriculum from ground-zero to ensure everyone is on the same level.  We'll do a thorough introduction to web browser basics, client/server model, HTML/CSS and Javascript.  We do, however, expect the following: that you have a willingness to learn, a passion for improving yourself, and a good sense of humor.

When should I apply?

Our Code School courses run on the traditional academic semester schedule:  August to December, and January to May.  However, if you want to get started learning, don't wait until the next semester.  Reach out to us and we can get you started on your life-changing journey right away!

What will this code camp prepare me for?

We like to say that you'll be an "expert beginner" at the end of the course.  You'll have a solid base of knowledge in basic web development and enough exposure to advanced topics to pick them up quickly and start making a dent wherever you land.  We'll focus on a more holistic approach to web development:  learning how different concepts interact with each other, how they are extending and implemented in different languages and how you can prepare to jump between development environments.

How much does it cost?

The Code School costs $750 per semester.  This cost gives you one hour per day (approximately 90 sessions per semester) of instructional time.  The classes can either be taken in person or remotely.

Who are the instructors?

The primary instructor for the FCC Code School is Brock Ellis.  Brock is a web developer from Fremont, Nebraska.  He has been programming for the web for over six years and has a huge passion for teaching others.  Brock lives in Fremont with his wife, two kids and two dogs.  He currently serves as the primary technical educator for the Fremont Creative Collective, as well as a free-lance mobile app developer and entrepreneur.

How are we different from other online courses?

We don't put an emphasis on job placement and outcomes.  At first, this may seem like a negative, but we don't see it that way.  The desire to learn computer programming can come from a number of different places:  an interest in understanding the internet and how people communicate these days, wanting to be able to talk more confidently to stakeholders about the importance of technology in your business, or exploring a possible career change.  We want to cater to all those scenarios, and more, with our training.  If your goal is to make a career jump by learning how to code, we'll teach you what you need to get your foot in the door and make a good first impression; but if you'd rather just know more about how websites are made and work, you'll walk away with that understanding as well.
